I just bought my 17 yo twins matching droids and they are getting about an hour of usage per charge because they are using everything all at once. Battery Vampires! This information will be extremely helpful. Thanks!!
I’ve just got an HTC Wildfire phone here in the UK and must say I found your website just fantastic!! I especially enjoyed the video tutorials. Keep up the good work
Just bought the infamous Droid 2 and I was shocked there was not manual provided, but modern technology brought me to your site. Very helpful and love the video tutorials. I am hands on and although I did NOT want to read the manual the new generation of explaining is greatly appreciated.
Fantastic job, I will refer to your site for other Droid users.
Is there any way to subscribe to updates on your site via e-mail instead of rss feed? I am trying to avoid using rss feeds because they get addicting…just got a new droid btw. Thanks for the battery life video on Youtube!
At this point no, I don’t have an email update system in place. I have grand plans for a newsletter in the future but for now perhaps you could subscribe on YouTube as I usually make announcements there when I add more to my site (text or video).
can u upload the video tutorial that
installation of full android os on iphone 3gs phone?
Highly doubtful as I would need to have an iphone which I do not. Perhaps someone out there knows of a tutorial (video or otherwise) that shows how to do this request. If so, feel free to submit the info here. Thanks.
Every time I give a command it sends me to web sites.
@Mark I’m going to assume you are talking about Android Voice Commands, when you say you “give it a Command”. I had that same issue until I reset some stuff… I wrote up a tip about how to fix it: Android Voice Commands Fix Tip #7.
how can i adjust my phone to save a pic to a wallpaper it looks to big corp dont work i have an ANDROID from cricket
Here is how I would do it… Go to your Photo Gallery, get the desired image on screen (alone), then look for a menu option – for me I just tap the image one time. You may need to poke a round a bit, but on mine, I choose “Menu”, then “More”, then the pop-up option called “Set-as” which lets me set it as a “Contact icon” or “Wallpaper” – choose wallpaper to put the image onto your phone’s wallpaper.
Thanks much for your website, it’s fantastic. I’ve learned more browsing in here in 10 minutes than messing with my phone for hours. It’s a godsend for beginners like me, and clearly written, easy to follow.
I’m in the market for my first smart phone. I want the droid for the voice command capability so this function is critical. I found the the TomTom and Garmin GPS voice recognition functons did not recognize my voice so I don’t want a repeat of this with a droid phone. Any recommendations for which brand is most reliable and which provider offers the best service plan and support?
@Barbara, I can only tell you my experience with Verizon has been very good, and Voice Commands on the Droid Series of phones seems to be smoother than on the HTC Incredible. Just my experience being in a 2 Android phone household (Droid1 & HTC Incredible). The Voice Commands should have nothing to do with the service provider, as it is powered by Google. Just be sure that the “Voice Search” app is available in the Market for the phone you get. That is VERY important. Means you can update, get fixes, etc. Not just installed on the phone, but available in the Market.
hi i have purchase micromax android 2.1
i want t oknow weather my phne supoort voice search
@dhiraj The best way to know if your phone supports “Voice Search” is to go to the Market and look for it there. Made by Google, if it does not show there, then your phone does not support the latest versions of Voice Search. Check out our details on this site: Android Voice Commands & Voice Search
I just got an HTC Inpire Droid. I had my contact list transfered. My question is, how do I update a contact by adding additional info like birthdate, home address, etc?
@chuck Don’t know for sure as each phone has slightly different options, but when you are looking at a contact, you can try pressing any “+” signs or look at the options that show up when you press the menu key… maybe you can find what you need there… anyone with that phone that can help out?
I deleted photos from the gallery, is there any way to get them back?
@sis0714 I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think you can get deleted photos back.
I’m using the Droid 2 Global.
I have a lot of videos on my Droid, but I have a hard time figuring out which is which because all I see is a thumbnail of the first frame which is either blank or a studio logo.
How can I set it so that I can see a test listing of my videos?
@deetedub Using the built-in software of the phone, there is little you can do to manage your videos. You might look for a specialized tool in the Market for that, or maybe look into a File Manager program where you can manage the titles of the video files on the phone. I have used Adao File Manager, but not for that purpose.
I need help on having more memory.
hey there .. i like ur website it seems very helpful for me

but am facing a problem with my android .. its downlaoded on my HTC HD2 .. and the total free memory ( phone memory ) i have is getting less and less ( its 93 MB) and now its 50 !!
and i didnt downlaod that much apps . but every thing i downlaod is going to the phone memory .. how can i change the setting and make them go to the SD card ??1 help plz
thnQ !
@arif You can move apps to your SD card, but when they are running, they still may take up your phone’s memory. To move an app (if it is possible as it varies per app) to your SD card, go to Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, Select an App, then you will see the option to move to SD card if the App lets you do that. Good luck!
My smart phone is making me feel dumb. My wife and I just bought our first smart phones, the Samsung 4G charger. Most of the books I see you recomend seem to be slanted to Motorala droids Do you have a book for Samsung droids? Thanks
@Don, I don’t have any specific books I can recommend for Samsung phones, perhaps someone else can add a comment here if they like a book they have seen for Samsung Android phones. Hopefully the tips I give here on my UseMyDroid.com site can help you get “smarter” and not feel so dumb when it comes to using your Smart Phone! Welcome to the world of little computers that “happen to make phone calls”.
I got a HTC wildfire s nd it keeps diverting me to Google search when.I do the voice commands. I must admit I do find that the iPhone is much easier to use.
@Chris… did you look through the comments or read the stuff on my site to see how to address that? Did you do the fix thing with Voice Search? Could you talk to the iPhone and have it do stuff for you?
Hi…I have a HTC EVO 3D and just graduated from a Blackberry…big jump. I have a series of small issues I’m working through…here’s my first. When I make a call and hit an automated phone answerer, how do I imput numbers for various options….thx.
@Bruce… I’m guessing here since I don’t have that phone, but usually the phones black out when up by your face… move it away from your face, and hopefully the screen lights up again, if not try touching it (if other phones have a slide open keyboard, start to open it) and hopefully the screen then shows you some options. While on a call, you may need to press the “keypad” option you hopefully see on screen in order to enter numbers, etc.
can i ask something?
i am using android froyo 2.1..
my android sometimes vibrate witout no reason..
why??
i really confius with it..
how do i recive pictures someone is sending me to my android?
How is the call quality on the original moto droid. I’m going to get an android phone this yr and activate on pageplus. I’m waffling between the lg ally and moto droid. Call quality is most important to me since I do a lot of driving so my family needs to be able to hear me when I call while driving. I use a bt headset by the way, the voyager pro. I’m not a power user will most likely use the extras for checking email, fb and weather. Daughter and daughters in law love to text so I do need a physical keyboard. Thanks for any help you can give.
Call quality seems very good on the original Moto Droid. I think it mainly depends on the signal strength but the moto Droid seems to pick up the signal better than some other manufacturer’s phones using the same network.
I need to know how to download a flashplayer to a Samsung. Moment sphm900 my device dont acept adobe flashplayer.
@Andres If Adobe Flash is not working on your phone, then I don’t know how to help… perhaps others out there can comment on any “other” Flash players that work than Adobe’s player. Could be the phone is not capable to running the Flash program and that is a real bummer.
@pickle432 You can receive pictures via emails or text messages, many times the pictures will end up in your “Gallery” or photo/camera app on your phone (especially after you “download” them).
@hafis re. your phone vibrating for no “known” reason. I have had my Android phone occasionally vibrate for no reason as well… other times it is seemingly as a result of my moving the phone and it is “giving feedback” to me?? Sometimes you might accidentally set the phone to silent (which causes it to vibrate to confirm your setting).. I’m sure there may be other reasons, but those are a few that come to mind… anyone else like to add to the list?
My daughter was playing with my new Droid Revolution (verizon) and she managed to delete the weather/clock display from my home page. I can find the app, but I can’t seem to get the same display to appear again as it was. Any thoughts?
@Ginger… I’m not sure from your question what’s up, but perhaps what you had before was a Widget instead of what you have replaced it with. You can install Widgets onto your various screens by long-pressing on a screen’s blank area, when the menu pops up choose Widget, then look through the list of available Widgets. If the one you want is on the list, select it. You can then long-press on the new item and drag it up, down, side to side, etc. as long as there is space to hold it when you let go. It is likely that your daughter may have long-pressed on the weather/clock item and dragged it down to the trash and let go, which deleted it from the screen but not from your phone.
I just had a ringtone sent to me and when I listened to it there was an option to “save” it. So I saved it but now I don’t know where to find it. Where are files saved? Please help..
@Blake Hopefully it was saved so that your “Ringtone” menu let’s you choose the Ringtone that was “saved” to your phone. Look at Menu >> Settings >> Sound >> Phone Ringtone – see if the new ringtone has been added to the list of choices. To answer your orig question, you may need to get a file management app to look at and move files around. I use a free one called “Adao File Manager” but you can look on the Market for other File Managers if you want to know where files live and move them rename them etc. on your Android phone.
How do I save a photo I received via email to my phone gallery?
@Lanie When I get an image (photo) via email and I “download” the image, It goes to a folder called “downloads” in my Gallery automatically. I get to see it there right away, but if I launch the Gallery from my phone later, I also can see the folder called Downloads and the image is in there. On my phone it is not very easy to move a photo from one Gallery folder to another, but it is pretty easy to “share” the image with others, no matter what folder it lives in. Just navigate to the image, select it and choose the Share option that shows up on the bottom.
All pictures that are sent to my Droid2 Global are in video format. The video only lasts about 3 secs, and is very annoying. How do I set it pic only??
@Kat I can see how that could be quite annoying… the person taking the “pictures” needs to be sure to take still shots not videos. I’ll assume you are receiving these “pictures” from another person via email, so unless you want to edit the movies each time you get them with something like PhotoShop (probably editing not on your phone), the main choice you have is to try to get the sender to use the “still shot”/”picture” option to take pictures instead of the “video” option they seem to be currently using.
I have a droid 2 global . There used to be a button (circle with an arrow in it) to press and it would take you to all your apps . My droid has been updated and now the button is gone . How do I get to all my apps to select what I want ?
@Ken I don’t have a Droid2 Global, so I can only guess here. The circle thingy with the arrow in it is called the “Launcher Icon” according to the PDF I downloaded to check on that for you. I can’t find another way to get to all your Apps easily if that icon is no longer visible. It doesn’t look like you can add a Shortcut nor a Widget to do what you want… So hopefully a restart or something like that will restore your launcher icon again. Anyone else out there want to comment?
@UseMyDroid I found an app to fix this issue I had .There is a free app called task bar and it loads and stays on your systems tray . you touch that app and you have instant access to all your app to use at a touch. They all don’t have to clutter your screen . I only keep the ones on my screen I use many times a day . The other ones I use less than that I can now access with the new app . The old system had the same type of button located at the bottom of the screen and was an arrow with a circle around it . Hopefully this will help someone who like me used that button and now misses it .
Ken
