Android 2.2 Battery Life Fix - Overview
|
This Android 2.2 Battery Life Fix is needed now more than ever. If you thought you had battery drain problems before the update, it’s gotten much worse. Wouldn’t you agree? We’ve looked into this new development (with not much help from our service provider) and come up with one major culprit: the Apps on the phone.
It appears that many Apps are turning themselves on and running without us even knowing about it! We think that the long term solution for fixing Droid Phone battery drain is another operating system update or for the apps to be updated. But let’s face it, we don’t want to wait that long. We want to fix our battery issues right now! We’re about to get serious with our app killing and we’ll show you how, below.
Android 2.2 Battery Life Fix - Advanced Task Killer
We’ve mentioned it in other tutorials, but now we’re recommending you use more features on the Advanced Task Killer by Rechild (found in the Android Market). At one point we considered this an optional App.
Now, it’s critical. Use these settings below and be amazed. Assuming that you have installed the App, change the settings on Advanced Task Killer as follows:
- Start Advanced Task Killer.
- Press Menu.
- Press Settings.
- On the View setting, check “show notification”. (This will show Advanced Task Killer on your top notification bar allowing you to use it frequently and easily.)
- Next, Scroll to the Auto Kill section.
- Set Auto Kill to “crazy”.
- Press Auto Kill Frequency.
- Select “When Screen Off”.
Android 2.2 Battery Life Fix - Restart Advanced Task Killer
What we’ve just done is tell your phone to close all apps when your screen turns off. This will significantly improve your battery life. Because you selected “When Screen Off” for Advanced Task Killer, you will need to restart Advanced Task Killer. Here’s how:
- Start Advanced Task Killer.
- Check Advanced Task Killer to be one of the programs to be Killed.
- Select KILL apps.
- Start Advanced Task Killer again (you may need to find it in your App storage area).
- Now, Uncheck Advanced Task Killer from the list of Apps to Kill so that it will not shut itself off any more.
- Press KILL apps.
Now you can manually kill apps or let your Droid kill them for you every time your screen turns off.

Power Tip #1
Some Apps have a mind of their own. Take Google’s “Voice Search” for instance. This App doesn’t take die for an answer. Let’s look at another way to kill this program and any other like it that like to turn themselves on and won’t go away properly.
- Using the settings mentioned above, open up your notifications from the top.
- Select Advanced Task Killer. You should see a list of running Apps.
- Long press on Voice Search.
- Press kill.
Power Tip #2
Advanced Task Killer will not kill the alarm clock. Want proof? Check this out:
- Open Advanced Task Killer.
- Press the Menu button.
- Press the Info button.
- Scroll through the list. Version 1.9.3 has a note that says, “Ignore Alarm Clock for Security Level High”
This is good news. If you’ve taken the time to set an alarm, you definitely don’t want that alarm shut off. You could be late for a very important date!
These settings on Advanced Task Killer should drastically improve your battery life. Give it a try. Whether you find it good or bad, let us know how it’s working out for you. Or you can always get an extra battery!

problem is when you long press and then kill it manually it just starts right back up again, how do we fix all these apps that keep starting up again on their own
@aaron you can’t fix ‘em if they just start back up on their own. That’s what they were made to do, Task killers can help stop other apps that don’t auto-restart on their own.
My Huwaeii ascend started at not going online mobile or wi-fi. I called Tech 3 times, took it in twice & they just tried to sell me a new phone. Then it died 3 days later!!! HELP? Please
@Any Marchand – it is hard to know where to start. Bummer that your phone died. Can you try taking the battery out, waiting a bit, then put it back in and try powering up the phone? Another option is trying out a new battery in case it died. I’d assume that where you got the phone from should fix it if there was a hardware issue (or try to help beyond trying to upsell you to another phone). It also depends on how old the phone is. If you got it wet (fell in water, etc.).
I’ve done everything in this tutorial correctly numerous times. At least I think so. When I tried to unchecked Advanced Task Killer it just closed the app. Weird…
But I’ve found out its not the apps thats killing my battery. It’s the display. I’ve lowered the brightness as low as I’m willing, so I can still see the screen. Then I set the screen time out as low as it’ll go.
But I still get a notification saying phone space is getting low. I’ve deleted all the apps I’m willing to, ex: games etc.
Also how frequent are Android updates? I’ve only had one in the 10 months I’ve had my Droid Incredible. It keeps saying there will be an update if I click the update button but when I do nothing happens.
I’ve dealt with it long enough. When I need my phone the most it dies. I’m about ready to give up & get a new one.
@Lindsay… sounds like the install of ATK is not working right if you try to uncheck it and it dies. The unchecking is only so you can keep the ATK app alive while it kills other apps. Did you set your kill levels with it like the tutorial says? re. your phone running out of “space” – that sounds like the memory on the phone is getting full… can you move some apps over to your SD card? Try going to Menu >> Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications – click on an app and see if it will let you move it to your SD card, if you can do it… that will free up space on your phone.
phone says if I turn off some of those Alps that seem to always running it will cause the app to crash? So I’m afraid to try some of your tips.
I do not recommend at all getting the auto kill in crazy and setting it up when screen off. I tried it in the past and it made my phone EXTREMELY slow. It worked better for me to kill manually, not in auto, whenever I decide to, and my phone is a hell of a lot better
